Bahay na Bato in Luna, La Union


Luna is a third class municipality of Province of La Union. Luna was once called Namcpacan, which is an Ilocano word meaning "one who feeds".  The municipality is  known for its native delicacies and pottery products. Luna is also known for its beaches, cottages and resorts found in each barangay. 



One of the newest attraction in Luna is the Bahay na Bato (Stone House) located at Barangay Nalvo Norte. The Bahay na Bato is one of the most visited tourist destination by both local and foreign tourist in region. Before it was just only a rent house or resthouse by the owners who were both professional doctors. 







With the magnificient stones and pebbles, conducive, friendly environment, the nearness to shore, thefar away distance from hustle city, the prime location of the Bahay na Bato was the very reason why the couple want to stay at Luna. In 2000, a Korean stone painter and wood sculptor, Mr. Bong Kim,  developed the area and the house. The art works of Mr. Kim mezmerized the people and called it "Bahay na Bato". With a record of 200,000 visitors, both local and foreigners visit this place especially during holidays, the owners, open the place publicly in 2015 and it was honored and supported by the Department of Tourism, La Union Tourism Office and the Loal Government of La Union. 









Aside from promoting the tourism in La Union, the Bahay na Bato generated a job for the local residents. Mr. Kim teach and train the local artisan on wood carving and stone painting. The owners hired caretakers as well.



Today, Bahay na Bato is not only open to public but it is also caters to special occassions like weddings, birthdays, baptismal, or even pre-nuptial photoshoot and other functions. Bonfires which is also accepted and advisable at night for more enjoyment. Swimming isn't allowed for safety reasons but the tranquility of the beach invites you to meditate, listen to music and even count the stars at night. 




How to get there:

From Manila Terminal, ride a bus heading La Union and the travel time will take you between six to seven hours.  At the plaza of Luna, La Union take tricycle to take you to Nalvo Norte, 10 - 15 minutes travel time. 

Location:

Bahay na Bato is located at Barangay Nalvo Norte, Luna La Union. General admission fee for adult is 20 PHP and for kids below 4 years old are free. It is open daily, from 6 am up to 8 pm.
