Is it really a-MAZE-ing?

I know, its almost every where in social media, but I just want to share my Tayug trip. Is it really worth it?

I was really disappointed when we re-scheduled our Tayug trip one week more. I was really excited to know how gigantic the sunflowers as described and seen on blogs. In addition, I was intrigue if those huge sunflowers were really facing the sun, as what my teacher taught in my primary years.

And ohh! the long wait is over! I packed my things and commanded my feet to start the journey. It was 10 in the morning when we embarked the road.  I was not on my best mood, since I came from a night shift and I don't have a nap yet. The only way for me revitalize  at that moment was a nice and comfortable car seat. Unfortunately, the car we brought needed a re-vamp, so we decided to go back, leave the car at the repair shop and just grab a bus.

I had two surprises, first I had the best nap on the bus that day and second, it's not only the sunflower maze that set my happy feet to explore Tayug, it was their town fiesta. Yehey! We arrived in our destination at around 4 in the afternoon. We decided to hunt for a place to stay for a night. Luckily, one of the tricycle driver stated that there's a near resort, we opt to trust kuya driver.  We thought, its best to get to know the town first, and early morning, we'll go to the main attraction of the town - The Sunflower Maze 2018.

HOW TO  GET THERE?

Basically, I am from La Union. First, decide if you're going to use your own vehicle or public transportation (bus), just like we did.

From La Union, hop on any bus going to Carmen or heading South (avoid buses with TPLEX signage). Then, stop hop off at SM Rosales next from the mall, you'll find jeepneys with Tayug signage.  BUDGET: roughly 250 php/pax

WHERE TO STAY?

As I mentioned earlier, we choose to trust Kuya Driver and he never fail us. Indeed, Villa Filipinas Resort and Bar was just 5 minute walk from town. The staff (ate Maricel) was so accommodating and pretty as well. They have pool, so if you're swimming enthusiast. just dive in. The food was basic, composed of cup of rice, one piece of hotdog, fried egg and dried fish. The breakfast wasn't included on our bill, so we bought our breakfast from them and had dinner outside the resort. Our room was also fine, we choose a private room with shared bathroom.  BUDGET: 1,500 php/2 pax

WHERE TO EAT?

The only food we ate the whole trip was at a famous fast foodchain - JOLLIBEE! But don't worry, there are a lot of restaurants and food stalls along the road of Tayug. BUDGET: 100 php/pax/meal

GOING AROUND?

Tricycle is the primary transportation facility in town. There are motorbikes, jeepneys and bus too. We rode tricycle when we went to the maze located at Brgy. Lichauco, Tayug Pangasinan. The  fare was 300 php/2 pax (going to and from the maze).

ACTIVITIES?

If there's no festival that day, when we got there, the only attraction that Tayug can offer was the Sunflower Maze but we are  darn lucky!

We strolled around the plaza and was fascinated by the huge and  varieties of cartoon statues. I was  like a kid running and posing to take picture on every cartoon characters.  I was amaze on the bonsai displayed on the long table. I have watched the group of males dancing on the basketball court. Roamed on the market and bargain shops on every corner of the street. Aside from that, we also explore their mall ( Magic Mall), and tried the electric massage chair for 30 minutes.

The main purpose of our Tayug journey was the Sunflower Maze 2018.

From our billeting area we had decided to leave at 7:00 in the morning since the opening of the sunflower maze is 7 AM to 5 PM only. However, there was a huge parade that blocks all the intersections along the market so we have to wait for the parade to finished.

Arriving at the area roughly around 8:30 AM the sun beams prettily hits the skin. Although, it gives more radiant to the sunflowers as if it soothes them by just being exposed to the sun. The whole area was around a thousand square meters of different species of flowers but mainly sunflower. When I was younger, I saw scattered sunflowers along the way (never appreciated it much) but seeing how gigantic the sunflower in Tayug mesmerized me (its even taller than my partner who is 5’4”in height).

Those sunflowers at the east portion of the garden were available for “pick and pay” ranging from 70 php to 100 php each. Most of the sunflowers there were matured and ready for harvest. One that I got has a diameter of even bigger than my face. Although, the eastern was for “pick and pay”, tourist are not allowed to enter the garden (for pictorials), a guard was on standby to precaution tourist relative to the said matter. On the western part of the area lies the sun flower maze where you can really lost your self finding your way out. The maze was picture-perfect frame for those who wanted to be surrounded by sunflowers.

In one of its way, you may stumble at a wishing well inside the maze. However, due to its popularity, foreign and local tourist gather at the maze therefore it takes time and effort for you to capture your best selfie. Other stuff like old vehicles filled with flowers or over-looking stand were present for selfie purposes also. You can buy souvenirs such as T-shirts, mugs, sunflower seeds and the likes for a cheap price.

In conclusion, sunflower maze in Tayug is a good place for selfies, groupies or even pre-nup shoot but if you want to find a place to relax? I will not recommend you to go there. First, its distance from town was time consuming. Second, it doesn't worth the penny and lastly, the only tourist destination Tayug can offer are the sunflowers.
