It’s good to be back after seven days of mind-blowing immersion in this book. If you’ve read the title of this blog, then you already know, I’m still washing off the remnants of The Mindfck Series* by S.T. Abby. And can we pause for a second to appreciate that pen name? For a serial-killer book, it’s disturbingly clever.
So, what is this book really about?
I’ll give you a brief, spoiler-free synopsis.
The Mindfck Series* is technically one book composed of five interconnected stories, which I truly appreciate. No need to buy five separate volumes, and no unnecessary space taken on my bookshelf - brilliant already.
Lana Myers is a serial killer with a list.
She doesn’t kill randomly; she kills for revenge. Every man on her list has earned his fate through unforgivable acts committed against her and her family. Lana is methodical, intelligent, and terrifyingly calm. She's an alpha female, through and through.
She also happens to fall in love with Logan Bennett, an FBI Special Supervisory Agent investigating the very murders she commits.
And he has no idea.
Lana Myers is not a morally clean character and that’s exactly why she works.
She is Strong, Calculated, Brutal and Emotionally complex! She is not written to be palatable. She is written to be honest.
Lana Myers is a woman forged by trauma, rage, and survival. She is both monster and victim, devil and angel.
And she is unforgettable.
This cat-and-mouse dynamic fuels the tension, making the story emotionally devastating and impossible to put down.
Reading this book in public?
The book cover alone is intriguing. When I brought it to work, some colleagues couldn’t help but ask what it was about. So I told them.
The looks on their faces?
…questionable.
I’m not sure if they were judging the book or me. Maybe they were silently questioning my morality. Who knows?
I once told a coworker that I related to the female lead - not because I’m a serial killer (obviously), but because of the memories she carried before becoming a monster. His response?
“Take good care of yourself.”
I still don’t know what he meant by that. But don’t worry, I’m sane, grounded, and functioning. Hahaha.
Let’s talk honestly.
If you’ve read Haunting Adeline or Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton, this series goes deeper, emotionally, psychologically, and narratively.
It’s darker in meaning, not just content.
What makes it even sadder is knowing that the author of The Mindfck Series* passed away four years ago, never knowing how much of a hit this book would become. This story unearthed things I buried a long time ago, and somehow, it did so with precision and grace.
What makes this series truly unique?
Unlike most serial-killer romances, the author weaves philosophical and literary quotes into each chapter - perfectly aligned with the story’s themes.
Some of the quotes that appear throughout the book include:
Confucius: “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.”
Albert Einstein: “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”
Voltaire: “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”
William Shakespeare: “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”
These quotes don’t feel decorative, they cut deeper, echoing Lana’s psyche and the moral grayness of the narrative.
The romance itself is subtle. Whether the spice is there or not, the story stands strong on its own. The emotional tension is what truly burns.
Final thoughts (and emotional damage)
Overall, The Mindfck Series* gave me a brain aneurysm I still haven’t recovered from. I wish, desperately, that I could read this book again for the first time.
Out of all the dark books I’ve read and owned, this is my favorite.
This book lived up to its name.
It fcked up my brain.
It shattered my heart.
And I loved every second of it.
If you’ve somehow stumbled upon this blog, I hope you find this book as enticing as I did. Please read it.
As a woman, you may find comfort in it.
And if you’re a man… well, be careful.
Not all women are weak and meek.
Some of us are like Lana. ❤
